Protect the flame!

A reference to artist Joseph Beuys' last words.  Beuys had a sober but joyous view of our human future: things look grim if we keep blindly destroying ourselves, each other, and the world, and joyous when we understand and utilize our creative potential.

This piece is laced with gold leaf over oil paint and industrial roofing compound.  To blend the materials of the Renaissance with those from suburbia captures the message here: right here, right now, be and protect the forces that can renew society.
